City of Tshwane protecting property rights in Eesterust as we distribute title deeds in the area

In my capacity as MMC for Human Settlements, together with City officials, I embarked on a door-to-door campaign to issue title deeds in Eersterust in Region 6 on Thursday, 25 April 2023.

The Eersterust project consists of 481 low-cost housing  of which 299 title deeds registrations are finalised. During the door-to-door campaign, I personally handed over 16 title deeds to deserving beneficiaries who have long been in the waiting list.

The title deeds were primarily handed over to vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and people with disabilities.

One of the  recipients was an elderly couple that has been living in their house for over 30 years and  were very pleased to receive this important document that will provide them with security of tenure and finally restore their dignity.

As  MMC for Human Settlements, I’d like to remind homeowners that a title deed is a legal document and must be kept in a safe place as proof of ownership. Losing or misplacing this valuable document will result in enormous legal expenses to replace the original document.

Handing over title deeds is an ongoing process and a core priority of our multiparty coalition government. We remain committed to empowering residents and asserting their property rights.
