City of Tshwane Council approves Outdoor Advertising By-law review for public participatio

The City of Tshwane Council recently approved the Outdoor Advertising By-law to go through a public participation process in an attempt to review it. Through this initiative the general public and the business community will have the chance to voice their opinions on the regulation of this dynamic communication medium insofar as it relates to the location and acceptable opportunity for the placement of outdoor advertising signs throughout the municipal area. By taking a responsible stance, the business community will have the opportunity to design and suggest opportunities for a range of signage, allowing local and international advertising to promote their goods and services in Tshwane.

By amending the by-law, advertisers will also have the opportunity to select from a variety of distinctive outdoor media options to meet their marketing requirements. The by-law seeks to regulate where signs can be placed in the public realm and in areas where they can be seen by the general public.

Everyone benefits from outdoor advertising signs because they serve as a constant reminder of business activities, promotions and events taking place at various times. They also act as an educational tool to inform the public about the advantages of services and products, allowing consumers to take all of these factors into consideration when they decide to make a purchase.

Additionally, it promotes brand awareness and permits advertisers to target their goods to captive audiences away from the clutter of numerous rival advertising messages vying for consumers’ attention. It connects consumers with brands wherever they travel, work and shop, and is a communication channel that is accessible and available around the clock.

The City of Tshwane coalition government is eager to discuss this issue with residents. We will soon communicate the specifics of the public engagement process.
