Tshwane Bus Services resumes operations this afternoon following an interruption

The City of Tshwane is pleased to inform its Tshwane Bus Services commuters about the resumption of bus operations this afternoon after drivers affiliated to the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) agreed to honour their shifts after unexpectedly downing tools on Tuesday, 6 June 2023.

Following a meeting between all the affected stakeholders this morning, it was resolved that services of an external investigator be enlisted to explore practical ways to find an amicable solution to the drivers’ grievances, which included, among others, occupational health and safety issues, overtime and the proposed work shift system. The City deems the grievances on occupational health and safety in a serious light and commits to address these.

Commuters are assured that they will not lose any points or credit as their Connector cards deduct only when they take a ride.

The City wishes to apologise to Tshwane Bus Services commuters for the inconvenience caused over the past days. In the same breath, the City welcomes back its 25 000 weekday ridership, half of which are scholars.
