A brand-new Pyramid Substation within 18 days

The City of Tshwane is pleased to announce that Pyramid Substation was successfully rebuilt in just 18 days following impressive expertise in engineering and construction.

During the early morning hours of 20 September 2023, a fire broke out at the temporary Pyramid Substation after lightning had struck it. The transformer and its container were burnt. The fire then spread into the high-tension yard.

The engineering team worked around the clock to restore the essential components of the power distribution system, leading to the power being restored to the affected areas.

This project involved demolishing the damaged structure, such as panels, feeder cables, circuit breakers, 132 kV isolator and key transformer components, and has been expertly completed within the projected schedule.

During the outage, the affected households were constantly provided with regular updates on the progress of the restoration efforts.

We would like to thank the local community and stakeholders for their continued patience during this time.
