Cllr Rina Marx

MMC for Health

The City of Tshwane’s outbreak response team will support a targeted measles vaccination campaign by the Tshwane District at schools and early childhood development centres in Laudium and Erasmia from 30 October to 3 November 2023.

The campaign was necessitated by six laboratory-confirmed cases of measles reported in Laudium and Erasmia between August 2023 and October 2023.

The Health Department advises parents to use the opportunity to protect their children. Consent forms have been issued to parents and caregivers since measles vaccinations are not compulsory at schools.

Apart from the ongoing school vaccination programme, parents and caregivers can also take children to the nearest health facility for vaccination. Measles is highly contagious and potentially deadly, but it is a preventable disease.

Vaccinations will be done at the following schools:

Primary schools Erasmia Primary School, Hillside Primary School, Laudium Primary School, Laudium Heights Primary School, Jacaranda Primary School, Sunrise Special School, Andrew Anthony Primary School, Central Islamic School, Tshwane Muslim School, Pretoria Muslim Trust College, Al-Asr Educational Institute, Amity School, Al Ghazali College and South African Islamic College
Secondary schools Himalaya Secondary School, Laudium Secondary School and Rosina Sedibane Secondary School
