On behalf of the City of Tshwane and our residents, I would like to officially congratulate our national rugby team, the Springboks, on a historic World Cup victory in Paris on Saturday night, beating New Zealand 11-12 in a closely contested game.
The Boks are truly an inspiration to all of us and have proven that we can be a country of winners despite all the challenges we are facing.
Led by Captain Siya Kolisi, the Boks faced and defeated all the top-ranked rugby nations on their way to becoming the first team in history to lift the Webb Ellis Cup for a record fourth time.
I want to thank the Boks for giving us a national moment of joy and pride. There is so much that brings us together, we are not just a country of problems and challenges, we are stronger together.
I am looking forward to meeting Captain Siya Kolisi and the team during the victory parade on Thursday. The capital city is ready to host the champs.
