MMC for Community Safety
It has come to the attention of the Tshwane Emergency Services Department that some unknown vandals temper with Rand Water and SASOL water and gas pipelines markings in Sekampaneng Ridge near Suurman in Hamanskraal. It is alleged that the infrastructure is vandalised for theft of ferrous metals.
The risks associated with the destruction of high-pressure water and gas lines, as well as electricity infrastructure, are severe and may lead to catastrophic outcomes, including flooding, explosions, loss of life, and significant property damage. It can also cause prolonged power outages and water shortages.
We therefore urge residents to refrain from vandalizing infrastructure belonging to SASOL, Rand Water, and any other vital service providers. Community members are strongly encouraged to promptly report any instances of infrastructure vandalism to their local police station or notify relevant authorities. You can reach SASOL at 0800 212 260, Rand Water at 0860 10 10 60, Eskom via 0800 112 722, and TMPD’s Cable Theft Unit via 012 358 1550.
By working together and taking collective responsibility, we can prevent major incidents such as the recent gas explosion in the Johannesburg CBD and the burst water pipe in Mamelodi in August 2012.
The coalition government in the City of Tshwane is fully committed to safeguarding our vital infrastructure. Let’s stand together in protecting our community’s safety and well-being.
Should an incident occur however, residents in need of Emergency Services are reminded to call them toll free via 107. Residents in need of the Gauteng Ambulance Service can call 10177 from a landline (toll free) or 112 from a cellular phone (toll free).
