Lerato Motaung and Navel Seakamela’s artistic practices are quite different in their concern and outlook, but both artists use human features to dissect and comment on our society. For Motaung, it is the all-seeing eyes and for Seakamela, it is the skin. These features serve as vehicles that the artists deploy to grapple with our social conditions.

Between 2014 and 2015, the two artists were part of the Education and Development Programme of the Pretoria Art Museum. During those years, they were instrumental in the Pretoria Art Museum reaching its strategic goals of making art accessible to previously disadvantaged communities as well as making the exhibition on show at the museum accessible to visiting groups by means of guided tours. Although they had exhibited elsewhere before, the artists were part of the 2015 For Sale Project Group Exhibition before respectively embarking on full-time careers as professional artists.

Throughout the years, both as students and as professional artists, the two artists have maintained close ties with each other. Their two-man show, Motaung // Seakamela, will present an intertextual viewing of their work from divergent and convergent points.

The opening event will take place on Saturday, 18 November 2023, at 11:00, and the exhibition will close on Sunday, 14 January 2024.
