Power failure affecting Capital Park and nearby areas

Yesterday, 23 November 2023, an explosion was reported at the Capital Park 132 kV substation, which resulted in a power trip that affected the Rooiwal, K3, Waltloo Industrial, Pumulani, Koedoespoort and East Lynne substations, which are fed by the Capital Park 132 kV substation. Upon investigation, findings revealed that the 132 kV oil cable feeding Transformer 1B and Transformer 1C had exploded.

The team managed to isolate the faulty equipment and restored power to the other affected substations.

Plans for repairs to the faulty equipment at the Capital Park 132 kV substation are currently underway.

The following areas will remain without power until repairs are completed: 

  • Capital Park, from the Apies River to Steve Biko Academic Hospital
  • Innesdale
  • Myburgh Street
  • Gezina
  • Eloffsdal
  • Roseville
  • Langenhoven High School to Adcock Street

The estimated time of restoration is not yet known. Residents will be kept abreast of developments.

The City apologises for the inconvenience caused to the affected customers.
