City of Tshwane responds to water supply challenges in some parts of Mabopane

Media statement                                                                                          14 February 2024

Cllr Themba Fosi

MMC for Utilities and Regional Operations and Coordination

The City of Tshwane wishes to address the current situation regarding the water supply in the Mabopane area, specifically in Block C and D.

The water team was engaged in urgent repair work in Mabopane Block D to address a significant leak. Unfortunately, during these repair efforts an electricity cable was inadvertently damaged.

We have notified Eskom of the situation and our teams are standing by to commence repair work as soon as they have safely switched off the electricity supply in the area. We appreciate the patience and understanding of residents during this time.

As a result of this unforeseen circumstance, residents in Block C and D may experience disruptions to their water supply. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

To mitigate the impact on affected residents, the City has deployed water tankers to provide interim water supply services in the affected area. We understand the importance of access to clean water and are working diligently to restore normal service as soon as possible.

Despite assurances from Eskom to dispatch a team, we regret to inform residents that the assistance has not yet arrived. We are in constant communication with Eskom to expedite the resolution process.

The City remains committed to restoring normal water supply as soon as possible and will provide updates as the situation progresses.
