Ald Hannes Coetzee

MMC for Economic Development and Spatial Planning

Recently, in my capacity as MMC for Economic Development and Spatial Planning, I hosted top executives from local and foreign corporations in Menlyn Maine as part of the “Tshwane is open for business” roadshow for the global business services (GBS) and business process outsourcing (BPO) sectors.

The roadshow was successfully held in partnership with industry associations, Business Process Enabling South Africa (BPESA), the Tshwane Economic Development Agency (TEDA), the Gauteng Department of Economic Development (GDED) and the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA).

The day was marked by presentations, engagements and site visits to Menlyn Maine, OUTsurance, SKG Centurion and Eco Park – Success Academy.

This roadshow has strengthened Tshwane as a competitive destination for GBS and BPO. Through this platform, we were able to demonstrate that Tshwane has a large concentration of financial and business services and support of educational institutions and communication infrastructure, including broadband capacity which is necessary for the GBS and BPO sectors to thrive.

The City’s Sector Strategy prioritises GBS, BPO and information technology as catalysts for economic development, growth and employment creation in the local economy of Tshwane.

Platforms such as these have enabled the private sector to provide investors in the Menlyn and Centurion precincts with a preview of some of the impeccable infrastructure and facilities that are available.

I would like to express my gratitude to the Member of the Executive Committee for the Gauteng Department of Economic Development, Ms Tasneem Motara, the Head of Department of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development, Mr Blake Mosley-Lefatola, and the management of BPESA, GGDA and TEDA for their unwavering support.
