City of Tshwane working to resolve non-payment of Expanded Public Works Programme participants

Media statement                                                                                               27 March 2024

Cllr Nasiphi Moya

Deputy Mayor

Community and Social Development Services

The City of Tshwane is actively addressing the issue of non-payment affecting approximately 500 participants in the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

The primary reason for the non-payment is a technical glitch within the human resources system, coupled with delays in verification processes from various departments that are crucial for accurate payment processing.

Our commitment to professionalising the EPWP remains unwavering, with a focus on ensuring that the challenges experienced do not adversely affect the beneficiaries. Timely and accurate payments are essential to sustain the livelihoods of EPWP participants and we are dedicated to resolving the issue promptly.

We are engaging with all relevant stakeholders to identify and address the root causes of the payment delays. Our aim is to implement sustainable solutions that will prevent similar incidents from occurring in future.

We acknowledge and appreciate the understanding and patience of all EPWP participants during this challenging time.

The City of Tshwane is resolute in upholding the integrity of the EPWP and ensuring that all beneficiaries receive their rightful payments in a timely and efficient manner.
