“Nogolide: Have I taken this name for myself?” delves into childhood memories, exploring the impact of past experiences on self-perception. Memory serves as a pivotal point of reference, influencing artistic expression and shaping identity. Through paintings, works on paper, beaded sculptures and performance, the exhibition explores the significance of remembering the past and the ways it is recounted, retold and reinvented.

Within the exhibition layout, letters addressed to “Nogolide”, a childhood neighbour, serve as mirrors that reflect aspects of the self, intertwined with encounters of the past, thus blurring the lines between the identities of those encountered in times gone by and how they influence who one becomes. This process of storytelling embodies a longing for expression, symbolising gestures of experiences that are both a sense of reunion and release. Therefore, each artistic element in the exhibition represents a dialogue between personal experience, concept and medium, capturing the essence of the narrative.

The exhibition opens at 11:00 on Saturday, 16 March 2024, and will close on Sunday, 5 May 2024.
