In July 2024, the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) made significant strides in public safety and community well-being. Their intensified efforts in by-law enforcement, road policing and crime prevention have led to notable successes across Tshwane.
On 16 July 2024, the TMPD conducted joint operations in Pretoria West and Pretoria North, resulting in the confiscation of bogus documents and the arrest of an illegal immigrant. Additionally, 20 non-compliant businesses received Section 56 infringement notices that totalled R17 300, reinforcing the TMPD’s commitment to regulatory compliance.
A comprehensive citywide operation on 19 July 2024 included drunk driving checks, roadside inspections and public transport regulations. This initiative led to 18 arrests, including six illegal immigrants, the issuing of of 134 infringement fines, and the impounding of 17 minibus taxis. These actions highlight the TMPD’s dedication to maintaining road safety and adherence to traffic laws.
On 22 July, the TMPD Drug Unit targeted drug trafficking in Pretoria East, arresting four suspects for drug possession and dealing. The operation seized a substantial quantity of illegal substances (heroin, crystal meth and cathinone) with an estimated street value of R789 700. This effort underscores the TMPD’s relentless pursuit of combating drug-related crime.
Ald Grandi Theunissen, the MMC for Community Safety, praised the TMPD officers for their dedication “I extend my heartfelt thanks to the TMPD officers for their relentless efforts. Their commitment is vital to our city’s safety,” he said.
