The City of Tshwane has been notified by Rand Water about its planned maintenance of infrastructure at its Mapleton System on Friday, 06 December 2024, from 08h00 until 16h00.
The planned maintenance work, according to the water utility, is aimed at improving the system’s reliability and efficiency. This essential work will affect Tshwane’s meters and reservoirs that are supplied by the Mapleton System as they will experience low pressure to no water supply. The water utility has reported that there will be no pumping from its system for the duration of the maintenance work.
To mitigate the impact of a possible water supply interruption, the city is planning to fill the reservoirs which will be affected, to over 80% a few days prior to the commencement of the maintenance work. However, the water supply may be interrupted during the upkeep period and residents are therefore urged to use water sparingly. Our technicians will also ensure that the city’s water sources are operating optimally during that period. Roaming water tankers will be dispatched as and when the need arises.

The city wishes to remind residents to always adhere to the following water conservation measures:
- Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
- Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.
- Do not fill swimming pools.
- Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
- Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
- Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.
- Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.
- Take a short shower rather than a bath.
- Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.
- Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
