The MMC for Corporate & Shared Services, Cllr. Kholofelo Morodi alongside MMC for
Economic Development and Spatial Planning, Cllr Sarah Mabotsa, conducted an
urgent inspection of a dangerously neglected building in the city, found to be under
the ownership of the National Department of Public Works.
This building, which should be a functional asset to the city and citizens, has instead
become a hazard to public safety, with shattered windows falling onto busy streets
and the structure showing clear signs of serious neglect. The state of this property is
not only unacceptable but also a direct violation of urban management standards that
all property owners are expected to uphold.
As part of the City’s Bad Buildings Committee, the City of Tshwane will issue a
contravention notice to the National Department of Public Works, demanding urgent
corrective action. Failure to comply will result in further enforcement measures, as the
City will not allow inaction and poor maintenance to put the lives of residents at risk.
“The safety of our residents is non-negotiable,” said MMC Kholofelo Morodi. “If
buildings are not maintained, they become threats to life and order, and this
administration will not sit back while properties under any ownership deteriorate into
danger zones.”
The City of Tshwane is intensifying efforts to restore accountability in urban
management and will take swift action against all property owners—whether private
or public—who fail to meet their responsibilities.
