The City of Tshwane is experiencing excessively high water consumption, which is putting the City’s water network system under severe strain.
The City has so far identified certain areas in various regions which are the main contributors to the overall high volume of consumption within Tshwane.
Our water balance data accessed on www.tshwane.gov.za indicates that water use in some areas is above the average household consumption. Since December 2025, consumption has averaged more than 30,6 kℓ per household. This places the entire water supply at risk.
The following areas have been identified with exceptionally high household use:
- Amandasig Ext 45
- Boardwalk Ext 11
- Danville Ext 17
- Erasmia Ext 5
- Glen Lauriston Ext 5
- Hammanskraal West
- Irene Ext 52 and 147
- Kudube Unit Ext 11
- Magalieskruin Ext 40
- Mamelodi Ext 10
- Marokolong

- Nellmapius Ext 3
- New Eersterus Ext 3, 6 and 7
- Ramotse
- Raslouw Ext 12
- Soshanguve South Ext 7
- Sterrewag Ext 3

increased demand is putting pressure on the entire water network, which may affect water availability and supply stability across Tshwane. If it is not reduced, it could lead to larger-scale outages.
We urge every customer to take immediate action by means of the following:
- Checking your property for leaks: A hidden leak can waste thousands of litres
- Reducing shower times
- Pausing all non-essential watering of gardens
- Running washing machines and dishwashers only with full loads
Implementing these measures could assist the City to protect the wider water network and secure water supply across Tshwane.
