On Tuesday, 31 March 2026, Cllr Mncedi Ndzwanana the City of Tshwane’s Speaker, engaged with residents of Ga-Rankuwa during a human rights dialogue hosted by the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. The event held at Thabong Lodge under the theme Voices of Gauteng: Language, culture and the right to belong, brought together community members, students, educators and cultural practitioners to promote an inclusive society.
Delivering his address, Speaker Ndzwanana emphasised the link between language, culture and identity as fundamental human rights. He encouraged the community to embrace diversity as a way to strengthen social cohesion. “As we continue to strengthen our democracy, we must embrace cultural diversity and multilingualism not as sources of division, but as powerful foundations for unity,” he said.
The dialogue was part of the legislature’s Human Rights Month activities. Speakers highlighted the need to protect indigenous and minority languages from marginalisation, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996. The event concluded with a shared commitment to continue fostering inclusive communities across Gauteng.
