A meaningful three-year collaboration with C40 Cities on the Urban Climate Action Implementation Programme ended on Thursday, 26 March 2026.

Much has been achieved over the last three years with, among others, a development of a waste management strategy for informal settlements, an organic waste diversion plan, a business case for the inclusion of renewable energy in our social housing and the incorporation of climate considerations into a selection of City policies, the capital planning system and the Integrated Development Plan.

Appreciation of the impact of the programme was combined with a meeting of the City’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) Focal Points.

The CAP Focal Points serve as an institutional mechanism to ensure uptake of the Tshwane CAP by City departments and the aim is to host regular sessions with these officials to enable them to play their role in a more substantial way.

The engagement was held at the gem of the inner-city, the Pretoria Zoological Gardens, which forms part of the South African National Biodiversity Institute.
