Compliance blitz on waste trucks

The Waste Management Services Division and the Environmental Compliance Section, in partnership with the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), did a blitz operation on the compliance of waste trucks during May 2026.

This operation is part of the City’s efforts to address challenges relating to the unlawful transportation of waste and non-compliance with waste transportation permit requirements. The operation was conducted at various landfill sites, garden refuse sites and transfer stations.

TMPD members, environmental management inspectors, waste management officials, an air quality officer and environmental education officer checked trucks to verify compliance documents. Waste transportation permits were inspected and permit application forms issued. Inspectors also informed users of permit applications and the importance of using registered landfill sites.

During the three-day operation, five fines to the value of R10 000 each and one fine of R5 000 were issued for waste-related offences.
