Temporary shutdown of Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant

The Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant is temporarily shut down due to deteriorated raw water quality as a result of the heavy rains.

The said plant has been shut down temporarily today, 14 February 2023, in order to avoid distributing water that does not comply with the standards for drinking water.

The situation will be monitored closely. Once the quality of the raw water has improved, the treatment plant will be put back into operation.

The following areas are affected:

  • Bronkhorstspruit Town
  • Ekandustria
  • Ekangala
  • Rethabiseng
  • Riamarpark
  • Zithobeni
  • Thembisile Hani Local Municipality (cross-border water supply)

Roaming water tankers have been arranged for all the above-mentioned affected areas.

Meanwhile, the City will take advantage of the shutdown to conduct maintenance work tomorrow, 15 February 2023, on the raw water pump which needs attention.

The City of Tshwane apologises for the inconvenience that may be encountered as a result of this temporary shutdown.
