City of Tshwane committed to job creation through EPWP Programm

Media statement

Cllr Peggy de Bruin

MMC for Social Development and Community Services

Following the most recent intake of the City’s Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) participants, the City of Tshwane has noted the concerns and queries raised by key stakeholders with regard to the programme’s appointment processes.

The EPWP is used by state organs within all spheres of government to realise the core objective of creating short- to medium-term work opportunities. Likewise, other spheres of government embark on their own recruitment drives to select beneficiaries.

Within this context, we hereby remind all stakeholders that we do not manage all EPWP jobs currently underway in the capital city.

State organs and departments align with the City of Tshwane’s EPWP as well as other public employment programmes with regard to projects taking place in Tshwane to ensure that Tshwane residents benefit from these job opportunities.

These robust engagements with other spheres of government, we believe, will ensure that all affected community members within Tshwane benefit from most projects, including projects that are not spearheaded by the City of Tshwane.

I would like to assure residents that the City remains committed to the creation of employment opportunities under the EPWP.

For sustained success, the City pledges to continuously refine its processes and welcomes value-adding input from stakeholders. We also pledge to continuously stage awareness drives that aim to provide communities with useful and accurate information regarding our EPWP processes and opportunities.

The City of Tshwane remains committed to contributing to the creation of employment opportunities under the EPWP through a fair, transparent and audited lottery process.
