Residents are urged to help protect the infrastructure providing services in their communities. Infrastructure, such as substations, mini substations, traffic lights, reservoirs, water pumps, electricity cables and street lights, belong to communities as it is built and maintained with funds residents provide when paying for their municipal services and taxes.
Theft and vandalism cause many hours of service interruptions that inconvenience residents. Repairs to infrastructure are costly and money that was earmarked for projects within communities must be used to restore the vandalised infrastructure.
Please keep an eye on the infrastructure servicing your area and report suspicious behaviour or digging to the South African Police Service on 10111 or the Tshwane Metro Police Department on 012 358 1550.
On more than one occasion residents in the Strydfontein area (Region 1) tampered with cables and other electricity infrastructure causing damage to such cables. On one occasion bridge pieces were actually removed for no reason at all leaving residents without power for more than a week. A contractor had to come and replace these bridge pieces with cost to Tshwane. The persons involved in this illegal action is mr Marius Grobler (082 442 5141) with address M17 (Hornsnek road) yellow board nr 168, and mnr Pierre Grobler (071 125 1486) with address R513, yellow board 184E. These actions were undertaken following the advice from mr Johan Bouillon (082 075 5249) with address R513, yellow board nr 203A, a carpenter by trade, who were of the opinion that there are cables on this line that were hanging too low. The contractor who came to fix this problem however stated it very clearly that there is no problem with the lines.
