Update at 17:00: Rand Water power supply failure affects most parts of Tshwane

Rand Water notified the City of Tshwane on Friday, 14 April 2023, that their Mapleton Booster Station experienced a power supply failure. The station is supplied from a City of Ekurhuleni substation. The incident affected Vlakfontein Reservoir that supplies the City of Tshwane.

The cause of the power failure was investigated and it was revealed to be vandalism. Repairs have since been accomplished and, in the meantime, the focus is on the provision of water.

While Rand Water is on course with restoring their reservoirs and their bulk water system, residents are cautioned that there is no flow, particularly to Eersterust and Mamelodi. This has led to reservoirs being empty. The team is using existing water tankers in Mamelodi to assist the latest affected areas. Additional water tankers have been arranged to provide water to residents.

We have also observed that the Waverly HL and Villieria Reservoirs are also affected by the water outage.

The following reservoirs remain impacted by no water supply from Rand Water:

  • Carina Street Reservoirs (empty): Supply Waterkloof Ridge
  • Constantia Park Reservoir (empty): Supplies Constantia Park
  • Elardus Park Reservoir (empty): Supplies Moreletapark, Wingate Park and Elardus Park
  • Garsfontein Reservoir (empty): Holding reservoir
  • Grootfontein Reservoir (empty): Supplies Grootfontein, The Hills and surrounding areas
  • Mooikloof Reservoir: (empty): Supplies Mooikloof
  • Parkmore HL Reservoir (empty): Supplies Menlyn, Garsfontein, Newlands and surrounding areas

The City of Tshwane apologises for the inconvenience caused. Residents are urged to use water sparingly during this period.
