City of Tshwane welcomes all initiatives by organisations and communities who are assisting to make Tshwane work for all residents

I want to acknowledge and welcome all community-driven initiatives and organisations in the City that have joined hands with our multiparty coalition government to build a City that works for all Tshwane residents. It is only through working together that we can achieve our collective goal to create a capital city that we can all be proud to call home.

In this regard, I would like to thank the non-profit organisation, Hennops Revival, for their Adopt-a-Warrior programme that is aimed at cleaning up storm water drains around Centurion.

Armed with the understanding of how storm water drains pollute water bodies, Hennops Revival is now turning its attention to the cleaning of kerbside storm water inlets in the Centurion CBD with their 12-member Adopt-a-Warrior team, starting with those closest to the Hennops River and then working their way outwards. Last week, they managed to clean 66 inlets.

This initiative is supported by the Memorandum of Understanding that exists between the City of Tshwane and Hennops Revival to protect and restore the Hennops River.

It is important to undertake seasonal maintenance using the drier winter period to prepare for the rainy season ahead. Winter maintenance includes the cleaning of storm water drains as blocked drains can cause flooding and ponding of water, creating dangerous driving conditions particularly during heavy rainfall events.

To date, two corporate sponsors, OUTsurance and Safripol, have come on board to support the initiative and I would like to extend my gratitude to them for their support of this initiative.

The City of Tshwane values and encourages partnerships with all organisations and communities that want to help make Tshwane a better place. Let us build Tshwane together.
