The USSD platform is an affordable tool for unemployed residents to connect to opportunities for meaningful work and economic growth by registering for the EPWP by simply dialling *120*5757#.

Unemployment remains a pressing issue in our society, affecting countless lives and hindering our progress as a nation. The EPWP, which is a national initiative and vital for our city, is aimed at addressing unemployment and poverty by providing temporary employment opportunities to those in need. We firmly believe that every challenge presents an opportunity for innovation and change.

The development of the USSD platform presents that opportunity. It has been recognised that EPWP registration through the lottery process has been a challenge, often causing delays and hindering the efficient implementation of the programme. The City is therefore proud to introduce this innovative USSD platform, which is a user-friendly and accessible system that will streamline the EPWP registration process.

The USSD platform is designed to be inclusive, ensuring that every individual between the ages of 18 and 60 years, regardless of their background or access to technology, can participate in this transformative programme. By simply dialling *120*5757# on their mobile phones, individuals, regardless of their technological capabilities, will be able to register for the EPWP, opening doors to employment opportunities that were previously out of reach.

This service will provide our community members with the key resources needed to be part of the EPWP, the government’s primary job creation vehicle.

This platform will empower our residents to take control of their futures and actively contribute to the growth and development of our nation. Furthermore, it will provide real-time updates and notifications, ensuring that jobseekers are informed about new opportunities as they arise. This will eliminate the need for lengthy paperwork, making the registration process more efficient and convenient for all.

The City believes that this USSD platform will not only streamline the registration process but also enhance transparency and accountability. By digitising the registration system, we can ensure that all information is captured accurately and securely, reducing the risk of errors or fraudulent activities. This will enable us to better allocate resources and make informed decisions to maximise the impact of the EPWP.

Individuals will be able to provide their personal details, such as their names and identity numbers, allowing the City of Tshwane team to match beneficiaries with suitable EPWP employment opportunities.

Furthermore, this platform will serve as a valuable tool for monitoring and evaluation. The City will be able to track the progress of beneficiaries, gather data on their experiences and identify areas for improvement. This will allow us to continuously enhance the programme and ensure that it remains responsive to the needs of our community. This human touch, combined with the power of the USSD platform, will create a comprehensive and holistic approach to tackling unemployment.
