City of Tshwane monitoring COVID-19 on a daily basis

The City of Tshwane is taking decisive action to protect residents and employees against COVID-19. The situation is being monitored on a daily basis, and residents are assured that measures are being put in place to manage the situation.

Delivering basic services to residents is a priority. Where possible, the City will continue to provide services, but never at the risk of residents or employees. For this reason, daily safety assessments will be conducted. The City will not hesitate to suspend services or to take any other decisive action if the situation calls for it.

Where possible, residents are requested to make use of online alternatives to interact and transact with the City.

Residents should note that COVID-19 tests are not conducted at City of Tshwane clinics in line with the existing approved protocols of the Department of Health and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD). Medical personnel will only screen you and contact the NICD if they suspect that you have the disease.

If you suspect that you have come into contact with the coronavirus, you must contact either the NICD at 0800 029 999 or your medical practitioner, who will advise you whether or not a test is warranted.

Following the directive of 18 March 2020 by the Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura, in order for Gauteng to contain the spread of the coronavirus, the following amenities will be closed with immediate effect:

  • Swimming pools
  • Libraries
  • Parks and resorts
  • Community halls
  • Nature reserves
  • Early childhood development centres (until schools re-open)

Museums are limiting access to a maximum of ten visitors per group. All large events and bookings of lapas and chalets in resorts and nature reserves have already been cancelled until further notice.

The City will also be disinfecting its public transport system before the buses leave the depot, during breaks and when the buses return to the depot. Sanitisers will be provided at all entry points at licencing centres for use by officials and members of the public.

The City wishes to discourage the public from visiting customer care walk-in-centres, except in extremely exceptional circumstances, in order to limit human contact between employees and the public. The public is encouraged to use alternative avenues to obtain information from the City, such as utilising the City’s electronic services.
