The City of Tshwane Human Settlements Department sets up a Dispute Resolution Committee to address low-cost housing disputes

The City of Tshwane Human Settlements Department has moved swiftly to establish a Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) with a view to thoroughly address disputes arising from City-owned, low-cost residential houses.

Recently, the City has received complaints regarding rights of occupancy and/or ownership from various beneficiaries. As such, the Human Settlements Department has resolved to set up a DRC to ensure a fair and transparent adjudication process.

This dispute-resolution mechanism is a cost-effective tool to resolve disputes speedily for the beneficiaries of low-cost housing who are mostly indigent and cannot afford expensive court processes.

The process will begin with outstanding matters that need to be finalised. Once those are concluded, new matters will be attended to.

Beneficiaries with outstanding disputes are encouraged to contact their regional housing offices to submit their disputes for investigation.

Should a dispute not be resolved at that level, it will be escalated to the DRC for consideration and resolution.
