City of Tshwane launches newly refurbished early childhood development centre in Mamelodi

Earlier today, I joined the MMC for Social Development and Community Services, Cllr Peggy de Bruin, to kick-start the City’s early childhood development (ECD) launch programme at Tiendleleni Preschool in Mamelodi.

Our multiparty coalition government is pleased to report that at least seven City-managed ECD centres are in a good state and are ready to reopen for the 2023 school calendar year starting on Wednesday.

This is a major development for the City as most of our ECD centres had remained closed for an extended period of time following disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.

Understanding the significance of ECD centres, the City worked with relevant stakeholders and partners to upgrade and revamp our facilities. The upgrades include extensive renovations and new play areas, as well as the employment of trained staff, chefs and professional teachers. We strongly believe that all ECD centres should provide good nutritious food as no child can learn on an empty stomach.

These facilities are proudly managed by the City and will serve our communities with solid foundational learning and development skills for our children. A strong foundation helps children develop the skills they need to become well-functioning adults.

I want to thank Cllr Peggy de Bruin and her team as they continue to relaunch City-managed ECD centres in various Tshwane regions.

Taking into consideration the current economic climate faced by our communities, we have ensured that enrolment fees are kept at a minimum at about R300 per month. For more information, community members can contact Jacolien Coetzee on 082 727 2922.
