Soshanguve MM water and sewer reticulation project well on track for completion

Media statement                                                                                          20 February 2024

Cllr Ofentse Madzebatela

MMC for Human Settlements

Today, I conducted an oversight visit to Soshanguve MM in Region 1 where the Human Settlements Department is constructing water and sewer reticulation infrastructure.

The project, currently at 80% completion rate, is expected to be handed over to the community by the end of June 2024. At least 80 households will benefit from this infrastructure.

This water and sewer reticulation project is expected to contribute to the City’s strategic intent of moving away from providing our residents with rudimentary water and sanitation using mobile water tankers and rudimentary toilets, thereby providing our most valuable stakeholders with dignity.

The City has budgeted about R262 million for the provision of water through mobile tankers throughout Tshwane in the current financial year (2023/24). It is our intention as the multiparty government to incrementally reduce this in the medium to long term by investing in the construction of critical bulk water infrastructure.

Providing the residents of Tshwane with access to dignified water and sewer services remains a priority of the multiparty government.
