On Friday, the Deputy Mayor of Tshwane conducted a visit to various community facilities in Region 5. During this visit, it was disclosed that a forensic investigation had been requested on Wednesday regarding the Refilwe and Caledonian Stadiums.

The purpose of the visit to Refilwe Stadium was to gain insights into the remaining work required for its completion. Having commenced in 2013 and with approximately R80 million invested, the stadium stands at 95% completion after 11 years. Efforts are underway to expedite the final stages of the project.

In light of the challenges faced during the stadium project, including the appointment of an underperforming contractor and issues with project management and oversight, it is imperative that a forensic investigation be conducted.

This investigation will encompass the procurement process, project management practices and recommendations to prevent similar occurrences with future projects.

The visit extended to four other facilities, namely Onverwacht Multipurpose Centre, Cullinan Library Park, East Lynne Library and Jan Niemandpark Sport Facility.

It was encouraging to note that these facilities are readily accessible to the community, shaping a promising future within our infrastructure.

The City of Tshwane remains committed to the upkeep and maintenance of community infrastructure to ensure that they serve their intended purpose for the benefit of residents.
