City of Tshwane cracks down on illegal dumping

The City of Tshwane is taking a stern stance against illegal dumping, collaborating closely with the Tshwane Metro Police Department and waste management and environmental compliance teams. With a zero-tolerance approach, the City is escalating efforts to enforce by-laws, confiscate vehicles and impose substantial fines on offenders.

Additionally, the City emphasises the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and has initiated a waste management data-verification project to ensure billing accuracy and to facilitate applications for additional bins. Accessible disposal sites for domestic and garden refuse are available, and the City urges residents to use these facilities to uphold cleanliness standards in Tshwane.

Furthermore, the City provides waste bins for free upon application, encouraging households with excess waste to request additional bins. While additional bins are issued at no cost, a monthly service fee is applicable per bin. The City also offers landfill sites accessible free of charge for domestic waste within specified weight limits, with fees imposed for waste exceeding the designated threshold. These services cater to residents, companies and institutions alike, reinforcing the City’s commitment to effective waste management and environmental sustainability.

Households with excess waste and backroom dwellers are encouraged to apply for additional bins. Additional bins are issued for free, however, service fees are charged per bin per month. To deliver waste collection services, the City levies a monthly service fee of R407,04 per bin.
