Marabastad Retail Market resumes operations following temporary closure

I am pleased to announce that the national Department of Employment and Labour has withdrawn the restriction notice that was issued against the Marabastad Retail Market earlier this month on 8 August 2022.

The withdrawal of the notice means the Marabastad Retail Market will resume regular operations as of today, 23 August 2022.

The inconvenience caused to the marketgoers, stallholders and the community at large because of the temporary closure of the market is regrettable.

My department will continue to address any challenges that the Marabastad Retail Market may experience to ensure that the market remains compliant with occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.

I would like to express my appreciation to all the colleagues who worked speedily and efficiently to ensure that the market is compliant once more. Going forward, we will closely monitor the Marabastad Retail Market to prevent any possible repeat offences in terms of legislation.
