City of Tshwane on track to achieve its target of planting thousands of trees in the fight against climate change

The City of Tshwane is pleased to report that we are well on track to planting 8 000 trees for the 2022/23 financial year in public schools, communities and at non-profit organisations.

We have received requests from many interested parties and as MMC for Environment and Agriculture Management, I am pleased to see the commitment shown by various community formations to safeguard the natural environment.

I want to call on all interested parties to join our efforts by identifying public open spaces, particularly where illegal dumping is prevalent, to help clear these spaces and plant indigenous and fruit trees to improve the aesthetics of the environment and curb waste disposal in public spaces.

Our various fruit trees include lemon, peach, apricot, grape, granadilla and moringa. Prospective applicants are reminded that the following policy guidelines for plant requests apply:

  • The organisation must be situated within the jurisdiction of the City of Tshwane.
  • The organisation requesting the donation must clearly state where the plants will be planted by indicating the public space or site, street name and suburb.
  • An organisation may only request plant donation once per financial year.
  • The applicant must provide transport and labour for the collection of plants.

Trees create a much-needed ambiance for our environment and open public spaces where there is illegal dumping is damaging to the environment. Therefore, it is important that we work together to keep Tshwane clean and green.
