City of Tshwane experiences water supply challenges in Thatchfield Ridge, Centurion

The City of Tshwane is experiencing low water pressure and/or no water problems in Thatchfield Ridge, Centurion, south of the city.

The area is supplied with water from the Kosmosdal Meter, which gets water from Rand Water.

The Kosmosdal connection and meter also supply Olievenhoutbosch.

The normal operating pressure for the Kosmosdal system is 130 metres (13 bars), however, the system is able to supply the areas with at least 110 metres (11 bars) of pressure.

Rand Water recently completed scheduled maintenance work on their system that is linked to the Kosmosdal Meter. While Rand Water was busy with their maintenance work, their infrastructure was vandalised elsewhere on the same system that supplies the Kosmosdal Meter.

Although Rand Water managed to complete the repairs that resulted from vandalism speedily, their system remained adversely affected.

Since the completion of the scheduled maintenance work and the vandalism incident, the City has been struggling to obtain sufficient pressure at the Kosmosdal Meter to supply the high-lying area within the Kosmosdal distribution zone.

The average pressure recorded is 9,5 bars. Thatchfield Ridge is situated at the highest point on the distribution zone and is therefore affected. The low-lying areas in the distribution zone are not affected.

Both Rand Water and the City of Tshwane have investigated their water supply systems and are struggling to identify the cause of the slight drop in pressure within the system.

Both the City and the water utility are continuing with investigations, including identifying illegal connections that may be the cause of the problem.

Residents in the Thatchfield and Olievenhoutbosch areas are requested to reduce their water usage and use water sparingly to allow more pressure into the system sufficient enough to cover the Thatchfield Ridge area.

The City apologises for the water supply interruptions experienced, especially in the Thatchfield Ridge area.
