Rand Water supply challenges in eastern parts of Tshwane

Following Rand Water’s restoration of the Mapleton and Eikenhof Booster Pumping Stations, the City of Tshwane has observed a decrease in, and in some instances a depletion of, water levels to its reservoirs this morning. According to Rand Water, subsequent to the repairs to the flooded Engine Room 3 of the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant, there were slight delays before pumping could reach full capacity.

As a result, the water utility’s reservoir that mostly supplies the eastern parts of the city ran dry. Last night, Rand Water was compelled to completely shut down the supply to the eastern areas of the city in order for their reservoir to recover.

The supply was opened this morning and there is already an evident gradual decrease in their reservoir level, which is still low. Should there be a further decline to a critical level, the utility might have to restrict the supply again tonight.

The following City of Tshwane reservoirs are currently either at critically low levels or empty:

  • Mooikloof Reservoir (empty): Supplies Mooikloof
  • Grootfontein Reservoir (critically low at 8%): Supplies Grootfontein, The Hills and surrounding areas
  • Carina Street Reservoir (empty): Supplies Waterkloof Ridge
  • Monumentpark Tower (empty): Supplies the high-lying areas of Monumentpark
  • Garsfontein Reservoir (critically low at 4%): The holding reservoir in the east
  • Parkmore HL Reservoir (critically low at 4%): Supplies the high-lying areas of Menlyn, Garsfontein and surrounding areas
  • Heights Reservoir (critically low at 13%): The holding reservoir and supplies Pretoria West areas, including the Moot

Residents are reminded to be prudent when using water.
