Draft Pyramid South Precinct Plan goes through a public participation process

In March 2019, my department developed guidelines titled “Precinct plan minimum requirements for the appointment of a service provider for the preparation of precinct plans”. This document lays out the framework for national and provincial departments, the private sector and the business community to develop precinct plans in collaboration with the City. The department is currently undertaking the development of several precinct plans for the next financial year, 2023/24.

The main purpose of a precinct plan is to set a vision for the future development of the identified area or precinct. The Pyramid South Precinct is a prominent node in Tshwane, Gauteng and the SADC region at large. The benefits of the development of the precinct plan are that it helps to guide the development of the area in a more orderly fashion, thereby protecting existing investment in the area and creating opportunities for future investment. The precinct forms a part of the Strategic Infrastructure Project (SIP 2) to strengthen the logistics and transport corridor between South Africa’s main industrial hubs. Once fully developed, the area is expected to create numerous opportunities for employment.

A service provider was chosen to create the Pyramid South Precinct Plan as a result of a strategic partnership with the Tshwane Economic Development Agency (TEDA). The plan was created through a thorough process of consultation with City departments and outside partners.

The draft Pyramid South Precinct Plan is currently open for public comment through the official City-led public participation process. It can be accessed on the City of Tshwane public website at www.tshwane.gov.za and comments can be submitted to pyramidsouthprecinct@tshwane.gov.za or hand-delivered to the draft Pyramid South Precinct Plan comments box, M7016, 7th Floor, Spatial Planning Section, Middestad Building, 252 Thabo Sehume Street, Pretoria.
