Bronkhorstbaai Water Treatment Plant will improve water quality and capacity

The Bronkhorstbaai Water Treatment Plant is a significant milestone in the City’s commitment to providing clean and safe drinking water to residents. According to the MMC for Utilities and Regional Operations and Coordination, Cllr Themba Fosi, this state-of-the-art facility is a testament to the city’s dedication to stabilise water supply and ensuring the well-being of Tshwane’s communities.

This water treatment plant project has addressed the imperative need of improving water quality by increasing capacity from 120 kℓ to 1 500 kℓ. The existing plant, having reached the end of its life cycle, necessitated the installation of a new treatment plant (package plant), a new abstraction point, a pump house, a 1 500 kℓ clear water tank, a new 1 500 kℓ reservoir at Bronkhorstbaai low level and the installation of a bulk pipeline with chambers.

The Bronkhorstbaai Water Treatment Plant will afford young graduates and professionals with an opportunity to gain exposure and improve their skills. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application, empowering the youth with crucial skills for the sustainable management of water treatment facilities. The project will also have a positive impact on employment and local businesses. A total of 22 Expanded Public Works Programme beneficiaries, comprising five males, five females, ten male youths and two female youths, were appointed. Additionally, seven small, medium and micro enterprises were engaged, resulting in a local expenditure of R7,9 million.

The City is excited to announce that the second phase of this initiative will extend to the Nkangala area, reinforcing our commitment to comprehensive water management and community empowerment.

The City would like to express gratitude to all stakeholders, partners and the community for their unwavering support throughout the development and launch of the plant. As we celebrate this achievement, we urge the community to take pride in this essential infrastructure and contribute to its sustainable operation by curbing vandalism and theft.
