Additional Energy and Electricity Department personnel deployed to Region 3 to address power outages

Following the recent and continuous severe thunderstorms that caused great damage across most parts of Tshwane and led to power supply interruptions in various areas, a transmission team from the Energy and Electricity Department has been deployed to Region 3 – which has been the worst affected region – to augment their capacity.

The storm uprooted trees and, in some cases, caused tree branches to fall on the road or on overhead power lines, causing power trips which resulted in prolonged blackouts in and around Pretoria.

Region 3 technicians have been overstretched due to the size of the network that they cover, and the number of outages experienced over the past few days, resulting in a massive restoration backlog.

Cognisant of the enormity of the challenges that beset the region and electricians showing signs of buckling under strain, a team from the Energy and Electricity Department had to be hastily assembled to supplement capacity to speedily address block and single outages.

The City is committed to accelerating power restoration to frustrated customers and appeals for patience from our residents while we strive to reduce the backlog.

The City of Tshwane apologises for the inconvenience caused.
