City of Tshwane Health Department hosts service excellence awards for top-performing staff

Media statement                                                                                               11 March 2024

Cllr Rina Marx

MMC for Health

The City of Tshwane Health Department recently held its service excellence awards ceremony to give recognition to employees who excelled in their duties. The awards recognised many diverse categories.

The different categories of awards included excellence in customer care, mentoring, collaboration, innovation, community project, management support, administrative support, best general worker, best primary healthcare clinic, best clinic dispensary and best municipal health services region.

As the MMC responsible for Health in the City of Tshwane, I used the opportunity to convey to those in attendance that this event was being hosted at a time when the public health sector is under severe scrutiny. I expressed that the City is changing the narrative when it comes to negative perceptions about the public health sector.

This is evidenced by the fact all of the City’s primary healthcare clinics retained their Ideal Clinic status (platinum status). Furthermore, concerted efforts are being made to bring health services closer to communities as demonstrated by our numerous outreach efforts.

These service excellence awards also come at a time when the City is undergoing a difficult process of financial recovery. The Health Department, like many others, is impacted by financial and staffing constraints. But despite these significant constraints, the dedication and commitment of members of the department has been unwavering.

I would like to congratulate all the nominees and award recipients and call on them to mentor their colleagues and empower them through best practices. This is one of the ways we can better serve the communities of Tshwane. Service excellence should be the norm and not the exception.
