MMC for Health champions Community Upliftment Precinct initiatives in Pretoria North

Media statement                                                                                                  12 April 2024

Cllr Rina Marx

MMC for Health

Recently, I met with City of Tshwane officials and representatives from various businesses to formalise the signing of three Community Upliftment Precinct (CUP) initiatives for Ward 2 in Pretoria North.

The CUP initiative is spearheaded by the City of Tshwane and aims to secure the involvement of individuals, communities and businesses who, on a voluntary basis, commit to the upliftment of their urban public spaces as well as the maintenance of certain capital infrastructure.

The businesses that have come on board include Solomon’s Lifestyle, Chicken Licken Pretoria North and HM Soaps.

As the MMC responsible for Health, I want to express my gratitude to these businesses for committing resources to help clean up the areas in which they operate. The City of Tshwane will assist with coordination and oversight in relation to these activities.

The value add of the CUP initiative is that it contributes to cleaner, safer spaces and creates a conducive environment for economic activity to take place.

As the City of Tshwane, we are encouraged by the level of commitment by the public to become active role players in the upkeep of the environments in which they live and work. This is the true embodiment of public-private partnerships for the benefit of all communities.
