Tshwane Bus Services afternoon operations could be slightly disrupted due to an illegal protest action by SAMWU members

The City of Tshwane would like to inform its loyal Tshwane Bus Services commuters that the afternoon shift could be slightly disrupted due to an illegal protest action by SAMWU-affiliated members.

The SAMWU members abruptly abandoned their duties without notifying management nor giving specific reasons for their actions and this could partially affect afternoon operations. The employees suddenly demanded to see the City Manager before downing their tools.

However, employees affiliated to the labour movement IMATU will honour their afternoon shift to ensure that commuters are not stranded.

City management will institute labour processes to ensure that the bus drivers return to work and that normal operations resume.

In line with the collective agreement, the City’s Labour Relations Management Division will issue letters to those employees who abandoned their duties to return to work with immediate effect or face the consequences of their actions.

The City apologises to bus commuters who have been adversely affected by the disruption and advises them to make alternative travel arrangements.

Further developments will be communicated in due course.
