The election of ward committee members will take place at voting stations in July 2024.
Ward committees are democratically elected members of a specific ward who are meant to promote community participation by making the municipality aware of the needs and concerns of residents and inform residents of municipal activities in their ward. Members are required to attend monthly meetings where they advise the ward councillor on the needs of the community and assist in the execution of the ward councillor’s mandate.
The nomination process for ward committee members closed on 3 May 2024 and the list of all nominees was published on 25 June 2024.
Elections of ward committee members will take place at your nearest voting station as follows:
- Region 5: Saturday, 20 July 2024
- Regions 2 and 4: Sunday, 21 July 2024
- Regions 3 and 7: Saturday, 27 July 2024
- Regions 1 and 6: Sunday, 28 July 2024
Prohibited conduct at voting stations
- No person may interfere with the independence or impartiality of electoral staff.
- No person may offer any inducement or reward to another person to vote or not vote in a particular way.
- No person may apply for a ballot paper at a voting station in the name of another person, whether living, dead or fictitious.
- No person may cast more votes than that person is entitled to.
- No person may disrupt or prevent an election.
- No person may create hostility or fear in order to influence the conduct or outcome of an election.
- No person may interfere with a voter’s right to secrecy while casting a vote.
- No person may disclose any information about voting or counting of votes.
- No person may open any ballot box or sealed container.
- No person may carry or display arms or weapons.
