Menlo Park Garden Refuse Site to be temporarily closed to clear backlog

Media statement                                                                                          8 November 2023

Cllr Ziyanda Zwane

MMC for Environment and Agriculture Management

The City of Tshwane would like to advise Tshwane residents and clients that Menlo Park Garden Refuse Site located at 26th Avenue, Menlo Park, Pretoria will be temporarily closed to clear the backlog that was created by the illegal strike.

The site will be closed from Friday, 10 November 2023, to Sunday, 26 November 2023, to bring the site to a normal state of operation. The site will be open for operations on Monday, 27 November 2023.

It should be noted that almost all the garden sites are currently overwhelmed as a result of the illegal strike. Residents and clients are therefore requested to use nearby landfill sites during this period to assist the process of clearing the backlog. Below are the City’s other operational landfill sites:

  • Bronkhorstspruit Landfill Site located in Zithobeni Road, Bronkhorstspruit
  • Ga-Rankuwa Landfill Site located in Molefe Makinta Road, Ga-Rankuwa
  • Soshanguve Landfill Site located at the corner of Molefe Makinta and Soutpan Road, Soshanguve
  • Hatherley Landfill Site located in Solomon Mahlangu Drive, Nellmapius, Mamelodi

Residents and clients of garden refuse sites are urged to refrain from dumping waste on the parameters of the sites as this is regarded as an illegal dumping activity, which contravenes the City of Tshwane Waste Management By-law. The penalty for illegal dumping as per the Waste Management By-law is R5 000.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
