City of Tshwane EPWP jobseekers USSD service is back online

Media statement                                                                                                22 November 2023

Cllr Peggy de Bruin

MMC for Community and Social Development Services

As MMC for Community and Social Development Service,  I am pleased to announce that the USSD platform designed to facilitate jobseekers’ self-registration for the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) initiative has now been successfully optimised following a system glitch.

The USSD registration system encountered technical glitches yesterday as it struggled to handle an unexpectedly high volume of registrations, causing inconvenience to jobseekers during the registration process.

The technical glitch has been promptly addressed. Our dedicated technical team has worked tirelessly to identify and rectify the glitch, ensuring that the service is operational and optimised for a seamless user experience. Jobseekers can once again use the service to self-register for the EPWP initiative by dialling *120*5757# from their mobile phones.

I am also delighted to announce that, after the launch of the system on Monday, 20 November 2023, around 552 jobseekers have registered on the system.

The EPWP initiative plays a crucial role in addressing unemployment and poverty within our community. It provides job opportunities and skills development to individuals seeking employment, ultimately contributing to the overall socio-economic growth of our city.

The USSD platform is designed to be inclusive, ensuring that every individual between the ages of 18 and 60 years, regardless of their background or access to technology, can participate in this transformative programme, opening doors to employment opportunities that were previously out of reach.

The City of Tshwane understands the importance of providing accessible and efficient services to our community, particularly during these challenging times, and we commit to continuously improving our systems and processes to better serve our residents.

I would like to express our gratitude to jobseekers for their patience and understanding during this period. We encourage all eligible individuals to take advantage of the USSD option and register for the EPWP initiative, as it presents valuable opportunities for employment and skills development.
