Tshwane Executive Mayor congratulates Matric Class of 2023

Media statement                                                                                            19 January 2024

Cllr Cilliers Brink

Executive Mayor of Tshwane

On behalf of the City of Tshwane, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the 2023 Matric Class for achieving an impressive pass rate of 82,9%. This is up from 80,1% in 2022.

According to the Department of Basic Education, close to 900 000 learners sat for the 2023 Matric exams and despite the well-documented challenges in the sector, these learners have proven their resilience. We applaud their enduring spirit and commitment in this regard. All provinces achieved a pass rate above the 75% mark.

Here at home, the City wishes to congratulate the Tshwane South District for its 90,4% pass rate and making it to the Top 10 performing districts nationally.

These results are a testament of a committed and motivated cohort of young people taking charge of their future. It is my hope that the same dedication and commitment is maintained and applied as you progress and grow in your fields of study and careers. We look forward to seeing more great things from you.

Let me also extend many thanks to teachers, school management and parents for their commitment and support in advancing education for our learners.

To the matriculants who did not get the best results, this is not the end – far from it! There are other available avenues to improve your results and achieve your goals. Please research your options. We all follow different paths to success.
